Ashley Oliver, LMHC

Ashley pic bio pageAshley Oliver is a licensed mental health counselor at Choices Counseling and Consulting. She received her M.S.Ed. in counseling from The College of Saint Rose and her B.A. in psychology from Russell Sage College. Ashley practices from a client-centered, strengths-based approach. She hears what you want to work on in life and helps you use and build upon your existing strengths to make the changes you want to see. Ashley believes you are the expert of your experience and she is a guide, here to assist you in reflecting upon those experiences and making connections. When needed, however, she will push you to challenge yourself to acknowledge your potential and reach new heights. She has training and experience working with clients who have experienced trauma and abuse, as well as have anger management trouble, depression, anxiety, sexual behavior problems and other mental health difficulties.

Ashley has worked with children, teenagers, and those considered to be “at risk youth.” She utilizes a family systems approach to family therapy and has also worked with those who are exploring gender and sexuality. She utilizes an eclectic, trauma-informed therapeutic strategy of CBT, DBT, and narrative therapies. Her work focuses on examining our thinking, breaking down cycles, and building coping skills. She is not shy to utilize more creative approaches, including art, music, play and even geeky approaches, such as gaming and comics. Ashley is a down-to-earth, open-minded person who is not afraid to be real with you. She believes the relationship between therapist and client is the crux of therapy, above all else. This therapeutic alliance is the most important factor, other than your own willingness, for creating change. Ashley provides a warm and safe environment for you and her to come together to face your challenges, explore your inner workings, and encourage your personal development.
